We are Coffea diversa, a garden of exotic varieties of coffee in Costa Rica.

Coffee is planted around the world in large monovarietal plantations. They grow a single variety, usually Caturra, Catuai, Catimor, Typica or Borbón and concentrate on the production of the farm.

WE ARE

different

We plant many exotic and unique coffees, creating a one-of-a-kind garden in the Cordillera de Talamanca. We like to brag about the fact that we have the largest private coffee collection in the world. It has taken us a long time to get to where we are to produce very high quality coffee.

In our garden we have more than two hundred species, botanical varieties, mutations and cultivars. We produce and sell limited quantities of some of our coffees to the world’s most knowledgeable roasters — all at reasonable prices.

We like long-term relationships, in which people are treated fairly for their work and knowledge. If you are a coffee-obsessed roaster and would like one of our 10kg bags, we’d like to start by saying hello! If you would like to collaborate with our coffee collection please write us here.

OUR PROCESS

Handcrafted

Our goal is one: to create the best possible cup with our coffees. To achieve this goal we always process our coffee in small bumps, allowing us to control each step carefully.

Pulped

Pulped

Our coffee is carefully pulped the same day it is harvested to ensure the preservation of its quality.

Process Methods

Process Methods

We process our coffees using the three methods: Washing: the pulp and mucilage are removed before drying the coffee. Semi-Wash: the pulp is removed but the mucilage is left behind. The coffee is dried with mucilage. Natural: the pulp is not removed, the coffee is dried with the pulp.

We select the coffee manually before packing it for storage.
Storage

Storage

Once dry, we store the coffee on parchment and let it rest in our cellar specially built with pine logs for this function. We believe that the great thickness of the pine wood logs preserves the quality of the coffee to the maximum by protecting it against the effects of the high relative humidity of the environment.
Packing

Packing

To protect the quality of our coffee for as long as possible, we pack it in 10 kg plastic bags that are then placed in jute bags.

LOCATION

Biolley, Puntarenas

We are located in one of the most remote regions of Costa Rica. A region that is not traditionally known as a coffee producing area, this is because it is a geographical area with very difficult access and therefore few coffee growers have tried to plant coffee in this area. This region, however, has one of the best microclimates, soils, and altitude for growing coffee in the world. The altitude range in our diverse Coffea Garden is 1200-1350 meters above sea level. The Diverse Coffea Garden is located in the District of Biolley, Province of Puntarenas, in the extreme south of Costa Rica, just next to the border with Panama. Our Garden borders La Amistad International Park, which is the largest forest reserve in Central America with 500,000 hectares of primary rainforest. This forest reserve guarantees the purest possible environment for the cultivation of our coffee
